Chinese Sticks A classic!
Two sticks are shown, one has a long cord dangling from it and the other has a short one.
Both cords have tassels on their lower ends, and a bead on the upper.
Holding both sticks together, the Magician pulls the short cord down and the long one rises.
The audience thinks the the sticks are connected.
You show they are not.
The sticks are separated, one held in one hand, the other in the other hand, one under your arm, etc. etc..
No matter what, it always works, the short becomes long and the long becomes short. A thoroughly entertaining routine.
The kicker comes when accidentally the two cords become long.
Oh, oh, what to do now?
Well, you "borrow" a hair from a convenient spectator, "attach" one end of the "hair" to one bead, and the other end to the other one. "Pull" the middle of the "hair" and both cords become short.
The sticks are plastic and are about 12" long.
Great parlour magic.
